FLYING J DISCOUNTS are now offered only for the month following in-store or restaurant purchases. More you spend – higher your discounts. We didn’t visit them in Feb so we receive no March discounts. What we spend now will determine April level. Diesel discounts are still lower but store/restaurant purchases pay off well in gas sales. NOTE: At the Explorer RV Club luncheon, one member relayed that Flying J does not give discounts at their Cdn stations – haven’t checked it out as yet. While preparing my seminar for the GS Rally–I discovered there are now over 64 affiliated Cdn Fly J Stations

VIRUSES KEEP POPPING UP - I Received this from Angie and John – it has been checked out on Snopes.com. Do NOT click any link in an email stating you have an E-CARD, even from a friend. Instead, go to the main card company website and put in the order number that appeared in the email content to pick up your card. This follows through to another Virus that states you received a POST CARD. Do NOT open it by clicking the attachment – these VIRUS programs will erase your hard-drive. You can also check these bad links another way – Hoover your mouse over the link and look in your bottom left-hand taskbar to see the website that shows up – if an unfamiliar site appears simply delete the email.

A few more SECURITY TIPS from Dennis. Some of these may not be new thoughts but by sharing a few each week it may be easier to retain the info.
#1 Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow IS the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, Do It!!!
#2 A few notes ref GETTING INTO YOUR CAR in a parking lot, OR parking garage:
***Be aware – Look around you – Look into your car – At the passenger side floor – And in the back seat.
***If you are parked next to a big van – Enter your car from the passenger door; Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
*** Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle – And the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car. You may be wise to walk back into the mall, or back to work. Ask a guard/policeman to walk you back out.
***IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
#3 ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)

A STEP UP – ON THE MOVE!!!

Hey All: We are again on the move as of Friday and does it ever feel good. After running last minute errands on Thursday we were ready for an early departure. Dish came down late afternoon and everything was put away. I began writing this week’s blurb on the road with the hopes of getting it out by Saturday. However now it is Sunday evening –plans do change from time to time. Delay details for this week are below.
Best laid plans for RVers sometimes take on a mind of their own. Our early 7:30 FRIDAY departure slowly became 9:45 - our step would not retract. Two days before, with John’s prodding, he managed to make it retract – but not on Friday when we wanted to get away. To make a long story short – Matt Curry (956-369-9918) of ‘ROVER RV IN-PARK RV SERVICE’ (fm Val Verde) removed the step motor and secured the step to get us going. (By the way Matt is a Winter Texan but he will also be available in the Valley for most of the summer, and during next winter). So now we have settled for a day or two of climbing in or out – (good exercise) – in a park we use our small ladder – hopefully Wal*Mart may offer a better temporary solution for access steps. We may have to wait till after the rally to deal with a proper repair.
Even with our tardy start we still arrived at a ‘new-to-us’ kind of a neat park in Columbus, Texas at 5 pm FRIDAY – The ‘Welcome Mat’ was extremely friendly at the COLUMBUS RV PARK. The local community also has much to offer – we’ve been to this area before, but it looks like a good place for an extended stop on our return trip next fall. The park offers standard discounts of 10-15% depending on what club membership is used. Our $20. (FMCA) overnight rate included a level pull-through site, w/30 Amp power/water/sewer plus free WiFi (somewhat limited at our site) and good no cost cable (including a free ‘gift’ at check-in) - although we only used electric and WiFi. The owners are proud of their creatively decorated washrooms, their hospitable front porch, meeting rooms and more. Click Here 800-657-6108.
SATURDAY night we stopped in Lafayette LA at FROG CITY RV PARK. This RV Park is new and modern with great signage from the highway and wonderful amenities. It offers long pull-thrus, full service w/30/50 amp power, free cable and free good WiFi signal. But due to a Rally taking place – they were ‘full’. Frog City is a Passport Am Park member, but only from Sunday to Thursday – with GS discount we paid $ 23.00. 1-337-873-9085.

I had planned to post the Diary last night - however WE SAW ANOTHER LUXOR in the park. Since our classy unit is almost becoming extinct, of course when we see a look-alike, we simply must share ideas. As a result we spent the evening visiting with Ron and Barb – F/T’s from Texas – discussing the many pluses of our chosen RV’s – plus a few of the hassles too, such as the fact that we have no step right now. Needless to say due to time changes and an early Sunday departure, my Diary was still in draft mode.Happy to Report – “All EXPRESS VU Channels” returned when we reached Lafayette.

Today SUNDAY we’re heading to EAGLES LANDING RV PARK, Holt, Florida – headquarters of RECREATION USA – $10.00 per night camping club and their 25% discount club Stay tuned for much more on this neat park, the impressive club and the area in next weeks issue.
En route through Louisiana, Hwy 10 roads were so wavy – driving and trying to write presented a challenge ‘plus’. Thankfully Hwy 12, N of New Orleans and roads in Mississippi/Alabama were a joy to travel. Beautiful sunny day – what more could we ask for. Although on Saturday a huge rock banged into our windshield leaving a circle ‘ding’ the size of a quarter. Hope it says contained until we can get it fixed.
We found it strange today, but both the Flying J’s and rest areas in Mississippi were chock-a-block full with trucks and RV’s. We finally found a lunch stop at the ‘Alabama House’. FYI diesel is just under $4. – gas is running at $3.15.

HIGH POINTS THIS WEEK
Last MONDAY was our last visit to Mexico. I had to get my BOTOX treatment. Those who do not know I suffer from BEB (my eyes blink incessantly) and the Botox paralyses the muscle but it only lasts 3-months. So I bring my expensive Rx from Cda and Dr Carlos, my talented Ophthalmologist (ex head of eye surgery in a major Mexico City hospital) who returned to his hometown to perform eye operations for the NE part of Mexico administers my Botox. I pay him my $100.00 but he not only treats my blinking, he also adds injections for the cosmetic end of things – now I look a year or two younger – Ya! I hope. Best part is my eyes will not hurt, nor will I blink for another 3 months until the Botox wears off again. Of course we had to enjoy a final tasty feast at Garcia’s.
TUESDAY I stayed put and played catch-up on my seminar PPT presentation while waiting for the propane truck - $2.50 p/gal delivered – but the Flying J price was $2.79. John thought his Billiard games were over for the winter but the ‘A’ team asked him to play the final match. At least he went out with a bang with 6-wins plus he probably cemented a place on the ‘A’ Team for next winter.
WEDNESDAY we lunched with great RV friends we’ve been in contact with since our 1980’s Mexican travel days at Lake Chapala. Henry and Bea from Tennessee have managed the progressive beach front PERULA TRAILER PARK (Call 011-52-315-333-9434) or by Email in Mexico for years. Henry, over the years has upgraded much of it, so now it is a 5-star spot right on the shore. Their park is one of the best stopping spots south of Puerto Vallarta - it is always full over the winter so reservations are definitely required. It was great to see these guys again if only for a few hours.
Jim, another good friend from our Mexico days and his housekeeper Isabelle joined us. Jim became very sick after his wife Bobbie passed away a few years ago; however with the patient help of Isabelle, he is almost back to normal. Great to see you Jim and to meet you Isabelle. Lunch at Logan’s Roadhouse was tasty as usual – it is such fun to stay in touch.

TIPS/PROMOS COMBINED THIS WEEK

***When David washed the coach we had a few difficult spots that water and a brush did not remove – black streaks marks, smudges etc. However David effortless eliminated them with his special formula that he buys in the local Dollar store. THE PRODUCT IS CALLED ‘AWESOME’ and it is nothing short of ‘awesome’ – what is even better is the cost is only $1.00. However do not use on glass because it does not easily come off. It is labeled ‘As seen on TV’ – but I am not sure what price it sold for in those promos. We bought 4-bottles to take north.

***I received another email from Jim about how great VINEGAR is to clean the dirt and season crime from outside of RV windows. You can wipe it off with paper towel but apparently newspaper also works well.
We also periodically pour 1-cup VINEGAR following 1-cup of baking soda down each drain and around the trap in the toilet bowl. The mixture fizzles and foams before it goes down the drains – during the process all residue is cleaned out.
Our more use of VINEGAR is we add 1-cup to each laundry load along with the soap. It helps control suds as well as freshens clothes. We began using this when we used to wash doggie towels. Now it is standard procedure – clothes are cleaner. Some RVers also add VINEGAR to the rinse water – for a touch of softness and the removal of all soap residues.

***BE AWARE - Eileen shared this little known law in Ontario and apparently in many additional states and provinces. ‘Ontario law states that when approaching any EMERGENCY VEHICLE, ON THE ROADSIDE, WITH LIGHTS FLASHING, you MUST slow down and move to the left lane – if safe to do so. Offenders will lose points and be assessed a large fine – from $500 – $1000 – maybe higher – jail time is even possible. The reason for enforcement is several officers have been hurt or killed recently.
When I mentioned this point at the luncheon I discovered this law is also enforced in many USA states - the fines may begin at $1000 and increase from there, I did not know this, and others may not either.

***SEARCHING FOR FILES ON THE INTERNET OR YOUR EXPERIENCES. When we search for files on the ‘Net, finding them can sometimes be a challenge. The NewbieClub.com sends out a weekly newsletter where they discuss many aspects of computer operation. They do sell books, e-books etc. but they also feature a mega amount of VALUABLE INTERNET TUTORIALS that are FREE for the asking. This weeks tip can be very helpful – to search for 'How To Lose An Ebook' you may get every last instance of ‘how’, ‘to’, ‘lose’, ‘an’, ‘ebook’. However if you ADD a question mark in each space such as How?to?lose?an?ebook? (You can also add quotes around the phrase) Immediately the search destination appears.

#1 A Tourist Guide shared this…if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse.NEVER HAND IT TO HIM/HER – instead toss it away from you. Chances are the ‘bad guy’ will be more interested in your ‘money than you, and they will most likely go after the ‘treasure’. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
#2 WOMEN ALONE have a tendency to sit in their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc. – and/or doing their check book, making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS! A predator could be watching you. Your delay in moving provides a perfect opportunity for him/her to get in on the passenger side. AS SOON AS YOU ENTER YOUR CAR, ALWAYS LOCK YOUR DOORS AND LEAVE.
FOLLOW-UP TO THIS POINT - If someone is in your car with a gun to your head, DO NOT DRIVE OFF. Repeat: NEVER DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything; wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat, they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes, bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

Hi Everyone: One thing about south Texas – 1 March it almost resembles a large caravan because there are so many RV’s of all shapes and sizes heading north. Not sure why it happens here because the rush to leave does not seem to be as intense in other sun-states. Looks like there are many storms taking place throughout the country so just maybe that means March has come in like a LION and it will go out like a LAMB. Let’s hope so – since it has been a vicious winter in most of the country. Thankfully from our perspective this past season has been a pretty good in the Rio Grande Valley.
Where has the winter gone – I cannot believe that our 4-months in the Rio Grande Valley are almost over. As of Friday we are again doing what makes this lifestyle so fantastic – we are hitting the road. Although we have been Fulltiming for 23 years, knowing we will be on the move one more time adds a layer of excitement to our life. I laugh when I tell non-RVers that we have lived in a motorhome for 23 years and they ask me “If we like it?” My frequent answer is “John handcuffs me to the steering wheel and periodically gives me the key!” The best explanation is the motto I stole from the Cdn military recruiting program – as far as John and I are concerned “There is NO Life like it!” In a word it feels great to be planning our next getaway one more time,
Jim Twambly, Interim editor or the RV Travel.com newsletter reiterated our thoughts exactly – his quote… “I intend to RV till I die (Peggi added -at least till I get old), I do not want to drive my RV across the finish line in showroom mint condition; rather, I want people to see a well-loved RV with the battle scars of adventure.” We agree with you Jim – our classy LUXOR is one of a kind but it has everything we could ever have wanted in an RV. We’ve no plans to ever replace it.
NOTE: I am feeling very depressed right now. This Diary was ready to post by mid afternoon – but I had two files open with similar names – one was reference and one my current diary. I accidentally saved the wrong one with this weeks file name. This error cost me an excess of 4 hours of lost story writing, thoughts, creativity, facts and ideas. I hope this version is as informative as my first blurb was. At times I simply hate these @#$%^&* machines. They are so unforgiving when we make a mistake. Forgive me if I miss something in the rewrite.

HIGLIGHTS OF THIS WEEK
Last WEDNESDAY, David Velasquez (956 223 3629) and partner from Alamo washed our LUXOR from the roof down. His fees were a low $45.00 - we contributed another $10.00 because he removed the hard water spots on the newly painted dark gray bottom area with a chamois. He also washed our neighbours RV. His final touch was to clean all windows with Windex – again to remove the marks left from the hard water. Next on our agenda was a trip to Don-Wes Flea Market to pick up a selection of assorted decals we had ordered. Now we have the website emblazoned on our mural and a special plaque with contact info on the Dish. Because it was payday we then ventured to Wal*Mart to re-supply the larder.

On THURSDAY, John and I hosted the final winter 2007/08 gathering for the Explorer RV CLUB at Harold’s Kountry Kitchen. It was a rousing success but because we are leaving the Valley next Friday, there will be NO Club luncheon in March. A total of 75 joined John and I (included 10 guests). Having a separate room simplified sharing and interacting between all of us. We plan to continue hosting these events next winter – place for each event is still undetermined, but the last Thursday of each month seems to work well. If anyone has a favourite Buffet style eatery in the Rio Grande Valley, feel free to share the info. FYI, the pictures have been posted to the Picassa Explorer RV Club Album.

John played in two POOL (BILLIARDS) TOURNAMENTS this week. On TUESDAY, he was part of the Park ‘A’ team - those members competed at Texas Trails RV Park and on Friday players from Alamo Rose visited our park. At both events, Alamo Palm players held their own, but they did not rule the scoreboard of either day. John is looking forward to competing with many of these talented guys next winter.
While he was playing pool, I was trying to tie up the finishing touches on my RV TRAVEL TO CANADA Seminar for the GOOD SAM RALLY in Perry, GA. Thankfully it is almost finished. The updating of a mega number of minor details is what takes so long, My seminar schedule is posted on my main website page. If any of you are at The Rally, please stop by to say “Hi”!
The balance of the week we ran mega errands within the Rio Grande Valley. There seems to be so much to do in this location. This morning (SATURDAY) we had stuff to pick up at Flying J and what we found interesting was propane was $2.79 per gallon (usually the least costly place to buy) but then I phoned Pony Express (956-381 0123), the company that delivers in the park and they are still charging $2.50 per gallon. Guess where we will fill up? Last stop was to visit RON HOOVER RV DEALER and THE RV STORE to pick up copies of my books - I was pleased to see that many had been sold.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Much of the next month and a half we are busy and on the move over weekends. Soooo if the Diary does not go out on Saturday, rest assured even though it may be a bit late I will get a copy out as soon as I’m able.
We are definitely on wind down for this winter but both of us are always excited to find new backyards and visit a variety of ‘firsts’ en route to Georgia. Hope I did not miss anything in my rewrite. At a time when many of us are on the move, we pray that the Good Lord and our Guardian Angels keep each of us safe and away from storms and accidents. Take care All. P&J

Hi Everyone: One thing about south Texas – 1 March it almost resembles a large caravan because there are so many RV’s of all shapes and sizes heading north. Not sure why it happens here because the rush to leave does not seem to be as intense in other sun-states. Looks like there are many storms taking place throughout the country so just maybe that means March has come in like a LION and it will go out like a LAMB. Let’s hope so – since it has been a vicious winter in most of the country. Thankfully from our perspective this past season has been a pretty good in the Rio Grande Valley.
Where has the winter gone – I cannot believe that our 4-months in the Rio Grande Valley are almost over. As of Friday we are again doing what makes this lifestyle so fantastic – we are hitting the road. Although we have been Fulltiming for 23 years, knowing we will be on the move one more time adds a layer of excitement to our life. I laugh when I tell non-RVers that we have lived in a motorhome for 23 years and they ask me “If we like it?” My frequent answer is “John handcuffs me to the steering wheel and periodically gives me the key!” The best explanation is the motto I stole from the Cdn military recruiting program – as far as John and I are concerned “There is NO Life like it!” In a word it feels great to be planning our next getaway one more time,
Jim Twambly, Interim editor or the RV Travel.com newsletter reiterated our thoughts exactly – his quote… “I intend to RV till I die (Peggi added -at least till I get old), I do not want to drive my RV across the finish line in showroom mint condition; rather, I want people to see a well-loved RV with the battle scars of adventure.” We agree with you Jim – our classy LUXOR is one of a kind but it has everything we could ever have wanted in an RV. We’ve no plans to ever replace it.
NOTE: I am feeling very depressed right now. This Diary was ready to post by mid afternoon – but I had two files open with similar names – one was reference and one my current diary. I accidentally saved the wrong one with this weeks file name. This error cost me an excess of 4 hours of lost story writing, thoughts, creativity, facts and ideas. I hope this version is as informative as my first blurb was. At times I simply hate these @#$%^&* machines. They are so unforgiving when we make a mistake. Forgive me if I miss something in the rewrite.

HIGLIGHTS OF THIS WEEK
Last WEDNESDAY, David Velasquez (956 223 3629) and partner from Alamo washed our LUXOR from the roof down. His fees were a low $45.00 - we contributed another $10.00 because he removed the hard water spots on the newly painted dark gray bottom area with a chamois. He also washed our neighbours RV. His final touch was to clean all windows with Windex – again to remove the marks left from the hard water. Now that the coach is clean, it’s much easier to wax and polish for the next phase of our journey.

TIPS of this week
We recently discovered that many Texas Campgrounds honour a TACO CARD (1-800 657 6555). RVers who have of this card can reap the benefits of up to a 15% DISCOUNT at participating parks in Texas and New Mexico. The card is a FREE insert in the Texas Campground Directory that is available from any Tourist Bureau – Our park office also had a bunch of these directories available for the taking. The card benefits became evident while we made our reservations for our trip to Perry – 15% discount is good.

SEVERAL CAN’T-LIVE-WITHOUT IDEAS & DOUBLE DUTY TIPS from my RV Packing Tips E-Book
When you don’t have a LARGE COOKING POT for corn on the cob, stew or roast chicken, consider using your electric frying pan. It also makes a great oven to bake a cake or pie. Using it outside to cook food with an odour like fish is as convenient as it is in the galley.
A MEAT BASTER simplifies filling batteries.
BREAD AND BAKED GOODS STAY FRESH longer when placed in a plastic tub (to catch crumbs) and stored inside your airtight microwave or oven.
To firm up an RV SOFA, try adding a 1/2-inch board between the couch and top cushions. In our Kastle #3 we replaced the sofa with two round bottom loungers (anchored with seat belts when we are in motion).
ELIMINATING MAGAZINE CLUTTER and finding a place for large books such as an atlas can be a challenge. Consider storing them under the dinette or couch cushions (on top of the board mentioned above).
MAKE A SEPARATE WORKING AREA FOR SEWING OR CRAFTS, etc. – cut the two back legs of a folding card table so they rest over your knees and sit on the back of the couch. Be sure the top is level when the two front legs rest on the floor.
ADDING A STRIP OF HEAVY-DUTY VELCRO (needle side) to the underside of the throw rug helps prevent it from ‘walking’.
RUBBER BACKED RUGS leave a stain on acrylic and hard surface floors.
