Issue 34, SPENDING TIME WITH FRIENDS

Diary published weekly since 2001

Hi All: Hope your summer is going well. Ours sure is. We have been away so much this year we wonder if we were smart to book a season. However our trips around North America have made for some fantastic memory building adventures. Cool

This week was another fun week touching base with many friends, but before I highlight recent events, I must apologize to any of you who tried to reach us on Saturday. I am sorry for any inconvenience, but our website email was down all day. Of course my Webserver tech support is only open Monday to Friday - as is my ISP tech support and I could not determine which company was experiencing a problem that caused my problem. Somehow my techie troubles seem to always happen on a weekend. Cool

I also couldn’t access any of my incoming (@rvliving.net) email through my gmail.com account or from my webservers WebMail system. My many hours and frustration seemed to be a waste of time until late this afternoon when for no apparent reason everything started to work again. I did leave a panic phone message for my Webserver at noon, but I don’t know if they picked it up and did something – or some form of magic kicked to make everything operate as normal once again. I hate technology, especially when it picks a weekend to quit functioning. Techs are generally enjoying a well-earned time off when my system decides to take a ‘coffee’ break. Oh well, everything is once again operating as I expect and guess that is all that is important. Cool

OUR WEEK IN REVIEW

We have been away for so long this summer that our social time with friends near home base has been limited. This week we were out almost every day leisurely socializing over lunch or running errands – a perfect way to move me away from my computer. Cool

On Sunday, Virginia and Jerry met us at Kelsey’s in Woodstock. It has been a year since we spent time with these two so we had so much to catch up on. Virginia’s Dad and I were a long-term item in the mid 70’s (before his demise), when she was only eight. We do go back a long way kid - great to see you two again. Of course Kelsey’s always offer a super choice of tasty delicacies especially when everyone we know is eating healthy. Cool

Wednesday, niece Sandi joined us at the Family Circle Restaurant in London. This neat very inexpensive eatery became one of our favourites during our month long motel stopover in London last December. Each of us had something different and each was an outstanding choice. Cool

Thursday, we met up with good friends and ex-RVers Jim and Joan from the London area at Montana’s – another favourite eatery. Our lives have intertwined over the years and although they are no longer RVing, we have many travel memories in common. Thanks guys for making the time to get together again. Of course the meals and sociability that Montana’s offer is always a perfect venue to touch base. Cool

APPOINTMENTS ETC

It seems that the older we get, the more time all of us and our friends spend at the doctors – this week both of us had some appointments. Because us snowbirds are away all winter we have to push all this med stuff in over the summer. And since we have been away so much this summer all these appointments seem to come in bunches. I am happy to say whether it was blood tests, scope tests, eye exams, Drs appointments or whatever, each scheduled time ended on a positive note. Cool

We ended the week with me finally having my hair cut so I could put an end to my ‘bad hair summer’. Making a point to restock the larder at the A&P Saturday was a perfect way to spend a rainy morning. Air Mile collectors who bought a $100.00 in groceries (not hard to do) received a bonus of 100 Air Miles. Since we hope to take another cruise during the winter of 2009, we are trying to collect as many A/M as possible – that way we can travel in luxury for ½ price. Cool

FINAL THOUGHTS

I send big thanks for all the neat email stories I received this week – more than usual. Many of them were real cute. But although I never forward chain letters and only rarely do I forward the cute email, I do appreciate reading them. Thanks for thinking of me guys. Cool

Part of the week was spent writing a story or two and sending others off to editors. Guess what, one more time it’s the weekend again. Travel safe all and hopefully you’ll each continue to enjoy your summer. P&J Cool Cool Cool

TIPS THIS WEEK –

HIGHWAY TO HEROS will now become a reality!!!!

Earlier this week a petition was launched to rename the 172 km stretch of highway between Trenton and Toronto as the HIGHWAY TO HEROS. This is the path that fallen soldiers take after they land in Trenton. Hundreds of people flying Canadian flags line each overpass as the funeral procession transports the soldiers along Hwy 401 and down the Don Valley Parkway to the Centre for Forensic Sciences. When we signed the petition last Tuesday only 1220 recipients had added their names. Thanks to news coverage and a massive email launch, numbers rapidly grew.

Today I looked at the link http://www.petitiononline.com/401Hero/petition.html and 40824 TOTAL SIGNATURES have been added – numbers continue to rise. Indicate your support if you wish – but just for info, in the latest story today (plus info on the most recent repatriation ceremony) at www.northumberlandtoday.com - the decision to rename the Highway of Heroes has become official. That stretch of Highway will soon include additional signs honouring it as the HIGHWAY OF HEROES.

Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan are there to help stabilize that country, however they occasionally do run into resistance along the way – we Canadians, like the Americans and their Allies in Iraq have lost too many soldiers. Occasionally news media covering the story have also been injured – not to mention the many civilians who were unfortunate enough to be in the path of destruction. Whether or not we each believe in the conflicts taking place around the world, John and I hope most of us RVers support our troops – even if we may or may not believe in the mission. This week Canada lost 3-more from the Royal 22nd Regiment from CFB Val Cartier, Quebec – their nickname is the Vandoos (English translations of "vingt deux" or 22).

THIS TIP/PROMO BEARS REPEATING

The vicious VIRUS WARNING that is arriving in the form of a greeting card from a ‘friend’, ‘relative’, ‘co-worker’ etc. shows NO SIGN of letting up. This virus is brutal and I along with many others stress DO NOT open this link. Delete it and empty your delete file as well. Try to get it off your computer as soon as you are able.

If you do click on the link (to pick-up your card), you release a virus into your computer. It will sit dormant till the person who originated it wants to do some 'nasties' with it – such as sending stuff to unsuspecting friends or colleagues using YOUR address book. This virulent worm is being distributed at record speed – it is the most widespread and vicious worm in over a year. Some say over 150 million of this particular worm are already infecting computers around the world.

The Newbie Club is the ideal website to visit if your computer is driving you crazy. They offer many free stories on their site but they also have a vast number of items for sale. Go to http://www.newbieclub.com/?rvliving for details.

The Newbie Club strongly suggests everyone should download the following FREE virus program from http://free.grisoft.com – I did and it seems to be running compatible with my McAfee and it even picked up a ‘Backdoor worm’ that McAfee missed. I have successfully moved the infected file to the programs ‘Virus Vault’ so it can no longer damage my computer or anyone elses. To download and USE this highly recommended FREE anti-virus software – go to AVG at the link above. Apparently it is as good as the paid program – just no tech support.

Bottom line if there is ‘no name’ that you recognized on any email – do NOT click on ANY link. If you do not know who sent an attachement, simply delete the message WITHOUT opening the link or the attachment.

Issue 33, WE’RE BACK – FOR ANOTHER MONTH

Diary published weekly since 2001

Hi All: Our time in Michigan ended on the same level as it began. Spending the weekend at the Valley Plaza Inn/Health Center in Midland, Michigan was a wise choice to wind down from our enjoyable family reunion on John’s side. On Sunday we enjoyed a leisurely drive to see the sites. Surprisingly all the stores in the area appeared closed – we were not planning to go shopping but it is something that we are not used to seeing at places south of the Cdn Border. Cool

What was interesting about Midland was each street portrayed rows of colourful flowers planted between the sidewalks and the roadways. It’s a common site to see baskets of flowers hanging from lampposts as we drive through towns, however this is the first time we’ve ever driven alongside a pathway of flowers. Cool

Border crossing at Port Huron/Sarnia on our return was almost a non-experience. NO line-up, minimal border questions, no scanning of passports plus rates going north was only $4.50 US$ (I think I told you – we paid $8.50 US$ on our way south and that line-up was lengthy as we apprehensively waited on top of that high bridge). All in all we had a great trip back and that is what’s important. Cool

OUR WEEK IN REVIEW

Monday night we stayed at the London Flying J in ready for an appointment early Tuesday at TEAM TRUCK FREIGHTLINER DEALER in London (1-519-681-6868) for some minor maintenance. This is a fantastic RV Friendly repair centre. Service is exceptional, fast and at a fair price, lounge is comfortable and if your unit is not in the shop overnight you can stay on their lot. Cool

We then returned to our park in London and settled into our previous site – the one we had at the beginning of the season. Since this was our contracted site for this season, you can imagine how surprised we were to find it occupied while we were away – another fifth was booked in our site for an additional week after we returned the end of July. Go figure, he was on our site for 39 days even though we had already paid for it. Although we were not happy campers about this situation, we settled into the overnight section for our mid-summer break. Since that area was a very busy place over the August long weekend we decided to leave a day early and overnight at the quieter Flying J to allow a quick start to Michigan on the Monday. Cool

As most of you know, we are happy to say our TV LNB ADAPTER on our INTERNET DISH is working perfectly. Most of you know I love being on line 24/7, but the Internet Dish has become even more valuable this summer since we also get TV from the same Dish. Vista from our front window is a bank of aesthetic trees but although they make for a pretty view, they block signal from our roof mount TV Dish. By adding the TV LNB Adapter to our Hughes .net INTERNET DISH from TECH MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS AND WIRELESS (formerly 3i Communications) we now have good TV reception as well. A version of this system works well on boats, plus the tri-pod system is a valued low cost accessory for RVers that move from place to place as well as for cottages in remote areas. Feel free to give Armand, Todd or Garrett a call for more info at 705 878-1025 or Toll-Free: 866 494-4801 or log onto www.techmcw.com Read my full story at www.rvliving.net/EarlyObserationsDirecWay.htm Cool

FINAL THOUGHTS

Doctor’s appointments, restocking with groceries and picking up mail took up the balance of the week. Kind of a downer week after last week’s excitement, but guess we each have to experience these laid-back periods occasionally. We still managed to keep very busy at any rate. A few luncheon dates had to be cancelled due to time constraints but we will touch base with these friends/family next week. Guess what, one more time it’s Saturday again. Travel safe all and hopefully you’ll each continue to enjoy your summer. P&J Cool Cool Cool

TIPS THIS WEEK – From RV Living in the 21st Century

TAKING DRUGS ACROSS THE BORDER

If you're carrying prescription drugs, consider leaving the meds in the original bottle and/or carry photocopies of all prescriptions. This info may also be advantageous if you are ever questioned. It is important to have verification if you use syringes as well. Because of the Canadian and American zero drug tolerance policies, this info could prevent hassles and avoid many questions from agents on both sides of the border. Follow the same practice for pet meds as well.

CHRISTMAS DÉCOR

It is time for snowbirds to be thinking of heading south. However new RVers, who will be away over the holidays, especially at Christmas, may not realize they should bring their favourite decorations with them. Every year I hear new RVers lamenting over the fact that they were unaware they should have packed their holiday favourites. They had no idea that RVers decorate big time while away from home.

To join in for the festive spirit, pack a good supply of lightweight holiday trimmings, especially lights, to decorate both the inside and outside of your RV. Large suction cups keep things in place on the outside and the ‘S’-shaped drapery hooks make it easy to hang décor from the valences and/or curtains. ‘Peel-and-Stick’ window decals also add a nice touch.
_________________________________________

COSTLY INVOICES FROM IN-PARK SERVICE TECHS

Our RV’s do occasionally require replacement parts and maintenance while we are away from home – we must remember that these homes on wheels are really machines and machines break down. Contacting in-park repair is more convenient than going to a repair facility but ALWAYS ask before service is begun if credit cards are accepted – even for expensive items such as a refrigerator replacement. Some credit card companies charge small businesses an extra 5% service fee – if your tech does accept payment using a credit card, he may have no choice but to pass the extra charges on to you. If he doesn’t do that, it may have to come out of his profit.

Be sure to save your maintenance receipts to present to customs – if asked - at the border.

A vicious new VIRUS WARNING is arriving in the form of a greeting card from a ‘friend’, ‘relative’, ‘co-worker’ etc. It is showing up frequently in my inbox and in many others as well. INTERESTED IN PURCHASING AN INEXPENSIVE MEMBERSHIP PARK?

Membership Parks are available for many thousands of dollars or you can do like we did and buy a resale park for slightly over $500.00. We bought a membership for Coast to Coast and Resorts Parks International (RPI) – it includes 'RPI Plus' membership - the ‘plus’ includes another 50% discount with Resorts America. RPI Parks are great but they only piggy-back onto other systems, so it is necessary to belong to a primary club to access their list of parks. If you want more info, send me an email info@rvliving.net and I will be happy to forward pertinent details.

Issue 32, A WEEK OF FAMILY FUN

Diary published weekly since 2001

Hi All: WOW. What a fantastic week we have had!!! Last Sunday we stayed overnight at the Flying J in London so we could make a quick getaway on Monday. We were on our way to meet John’s family for a gathering near Traverse City, Michigan. Border crossing was slow – we didn’t expect so many Ontarioites would be heading to the USA on the holiday Monday. They stopped us at the tollbooth for 15 minutes until traffic on the bridge became less congested, however traffic stopped again when we reached the TOP of that high bridge from Sarnia – a bit unnerving after the recent bridge collapse but what could we do? However the water was a loooooong way down and every time a truck passed (no delay in the truck lanes that day) the entire bridge shook. Guess one more time our Guardian Angels were travelling with us. At the border the agents again scanned our passports and this time she came in to search our fridge but since we had nothing forbidden on board her quest turned up nothing. Great drive to Michigan.

OUR WEEK IN REVIEW

Surprises this week began when we arrived at TRAVERSE BAY RV RESORT. www.traversebayrv.com 231-938-5800. The warm ‘Welcome’ during check-in set the scene for our outstanding week. Our site was spacious – all paved patio and parking spot – and within reach of one of 3 WiFi towers plus 50 amp connections. Flowers and picturesque lakes were everywhere within the park. Only then did we realize that most sites were owned by the individual RVers who were camped on them – many also had their boats docked. All the motorhomes were parked together and the 5ths were parked in a different aesthetic section. Some of my pictures (of the park and our entire family gathering) are posted on my Picasa Albums http://picasaweb.google.com/rv.lifetstyle.consultants Cool

To stay in this park, RV’s had to be new with in the past 10 years, unless the management approved them. It was good that cable was included because no tri-pod dishes were allowed – TV or Internet (I enjoyed free WiFi for the week). In a word, this posh park was more costly than most of our stays ($48.00 per night) but it was worth every penny because the amenities and overall appearance on a scale of 10 were a definite 12. It felt good to branch out of our normal box for a very few days. Cool

HOW TO HAVE A SUPER FAMILY GATHERING

John’s sister Marilyn and hubby Arnold rented a huge elaborate three-story house overlooking Elk Lake, near Elk Rapids, Michigan. What an impressive vista opened up from any of the three expansive decks (one screen in). The spacious calm clean (green) lake had a shallow sandy bottom that was perfect for swimming right from the shoreline. A relaxing hot tub, long pier, boat dock, huge trampoline on the water, BBQ and enclosed fire pit in the yard kept both young and old entertained. Cool

John and I stayed in our motorhome but the other 10 (6 adults and 4 kids) all had a comfortable bed to sleep in. Marilyn is a gourmet chef, and son Jim took control of the BBQ. It was fun for all of us to sit down to a decadent meal. Arnold’s brother Jack and wife Marlene flew over from Montreal area and son Jim and wife Lee Anne along with their three boys (AJ, Henry and Ben) also drove down from Chicago area. Granddaughter Helene represented her mom, dad and brother who at the last minute could not make it. Although number of family members on John’s side is much smaller than mine, this no way lessoned our fun times. Cool

Jim rented a pontoon boat for 3-days – with room for all 12 of us to enjoy the ride together. Our daylong water excursions on both Torch Lake and Elk Lake were relaxing as well as interesting. The kids even had the chance to ride behind the boat in a special inner tube ride. Tuesday we enjoyed an on-board picnic on Elk Lake and Thursday we sailed from Torch River for a day on Torch Lake – our luncheon stop at impressive Dockside Restaurant added to our outing. Somehow it almost seemed idyllic to cruise up to the restaurant boat dock so we could dine on their spacious patio. What a way to spend the week. By the way I posted our family gathering pictures on the Picasa Albums http://picasaweb.google.com/rv.lifetstyle.consultants Cool

ON THE MOVE AGAIN

Friday morning John and I were on the move again and Jack and Marlene drove to Sault Ste Marie to fly back to Montreal. The Chicago clan enjoyed their classy surroundings until Saturday. Our surprises for our week getaway continued. We wanted to drag our feet a bit longer, so we booked in at the VALLEY PLAZA RESORT IN MIDLAND, MICHIGAN. This pretty park is dotted with a variety of trees, however our Internet Dish was still able to access a signal – but not our roof-mount TV Dish. No big deal – thanks to our TV adapter for our versatile Internet Dish (pictures at bottom of main page of RV Living.net) we are receiving signal loud and clear for both TV and Internet. The park does offer FREE WiFi but it is not available from our spacious site. Cable and 50 amp connections are added pluses. Cool

Valley Plaza RV Park is part of a huge complex that borders a lake with a sandy beach; an immense health club (access available for RVers); an indoor pool/hot tub; bowling alley, billiard centre, mini golf, movie theatres; 3-restaurants/lounges plus a Convention Centre, a large Best Western Hotel and Plaza Suites. All in all it is quite a complex. This morning we took a short drive to restock the larder, but since Saturday is Diary day – more touring will have to wait ‘til Sunday. Pictures of Midland are not posted yet either. Cool

SPECIAL PLUS for Canadians RVers – regular rates are $37.00 (with Good Sam Discount it is $33.00) but they offer a $30.00 rate (including 50 amp service) for us Canadians. Since the Canadian dollar is almost at par these days, those of us living north of the border do not expect to receive special treatment. Thanks Valley Vista for caring. This park is a perfect spot for those who want a quick getaway across the border. They host special weekend events throughout the year. Next two are over Labour Day and Halloween. Log onto www.valleyplazaresort.com - Call 800-262-0006 or 989-496-2159. CALL FOR CANADIAN DISCOUNTS Cool

FINAL THOUGHTS

We leave here Monday morning for another overnight at the London Flying J. Tuesday we have an appointment at Team Truck to have the drive belt changed. It is not giving us any problem but since it is 12-years old, this is a preventive maintenance appointment. Crossing on a working Monday should be a bit less busy than it was on the holiday. After our appointment we’ll return to our park in London. Till next week travel safe P&J Cool Cool Cool

TIPS OF THE WEEK

There are many RECALLS on various parts of different RV’s. A listing was published in the ‘RVTravel.com’ newsletter today. Click here for the complete contents http://rvtravel.com/publish/news/july07RVrecalls.shtml Why not sign up for your own copy of the RVTravel.com informative weekly newsletter?

Two other FORUM posts that were in this newsletter are worth mentioning...

#1 covers an RV BURGLARY. This one happened in a campground when an RV was set-up in an isolated part of the park. What is interesting about this forum post was the comment near the end from the retired policeman with 26 + years service. Bottom line is we all have to TRAVEL SAFE EVERWHERE. #2 NEW INFO – USING VISA CREDIT CARDS IN THE TRUCK LANES OF FLYING J – may not be accepted at all locations. HOW TO DEAL WITH ‘TELEMARKETERS’ was received from Carolyn by email – Solution – when ‘Telemarketers’ call, simply say “HOLD ON PLEASE” and put the phone down. When you hear the beep of the disconnected call, hang up the phone.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If it is a MACHINE making the call – to see if you are home – simply hit the # sign continuously. This confuses the machine and it kicks your number out of the list.
NEW VIRUS WARNING received from Angie by email. Many of us are receiving email lately telling us we have a greeting card from a friend etc. – if you click on the link you could release a virus into your computer. Some of these email are a HOAX but others like the POSTCARD NOTICES are real. Bottom line if there is no name you recognize on the email – do not click on the link. PROMOS THIS WEEK
WAYFARER RV INSURANCE is the leading RV insurer company in many areas of Canada. If Wayfarer is not available in your area check out other listings on my RV WEBLINKS page look under ‘RV Insurances’. Bottom line – no matter what company you insure with – your policy should cover the actual resale value of your RV (unless it is less than 5 years old and then it should be insured for replacement costs). Your policy should also include contents insurance etc as part of the policy.
Wayfarer also sells a ‘HOME OWNER’ STYLE FULLTIMER PACKAGE. It is not wise to add your RV to your house insurance – you may not be protected if your RV is broken into while it is in storage, or if you leave it at the park when you return home. When your RV suffers a loss ‘on vacation’ when you are not with it, it is possible that your contents insurance may not be covered. Check out this story on what to look for when buying insurance http://www.rvliving.net/Look%20for%20the%20Difference.htm
My FANTASTIC INTERNET DISH has come through one more time. As I said in the beginning of this post, we are in a pretty park with a lot of trees. Issue 31, GETTING READY TO MOVE AGAIN.
Diary published weekly since 2001
Hi Again, summer is here and in Canada it is a long weekend (Civic holiday Monday). Numerous RVers are out enjoying fun filled adventures, sure hope you are joining them. We have been back in the London area for the past 10 days and tomorrow we are off and running again – this time for a week in Michigan – for a family gathering with John’s sister Marilyn, hubby Arnold and many of the kids. Mid September we have booked for a week in Ottawa for a ‘Navy Huron Reunion’ (the ‘Huron’ was the last ship John served on - for 5 years) – but more on that later. We sure do love the freedom of this lifestyle. Cool
We were very fortunate during our trip west that the severe hot or wet weather surfaced a day or two after we departed in most of the places we visited. We feel bad for the friends we left that had to deal with their uncomfortable climate. However I will say it again – our past trip west has been up there as one of our most memorable during our 22 years of F/T. Good friends, fun things to see, outstanding RV Parks, a coach that purred like a kitten the entire trip, along with spectacular scenery – what more could anyone ask for? Cool
Much of this week we have been catching up on touching base with good friends, picking up and dealing with 6-weeks of mail back log, med appointments etc. We have also made time to relax, unwind and clean house before another adventure takes place. Cool
OUR WEEK IN REVIEW
A long overdue lunch date with Doug and Bonnie (fulltimers) from Chatham, Ontario took place last Sunday at Timbers Restaurant in London – it helped to kick-started the week. Thanks guys for making the long trip down, it was so good to see you. Cool
Monday we ran mega errands and Tuesday I again had my BOTOX. Hey!!! I have stopped my incessant blinking and my eyes will no longer hurt for the next 3 months. They were pretty bad by appointment time. This is a lifetime commitment every 3 months, so I may as well get used to it. Cool
Wednesday it was John’s turn to visit his Ophthalmologist so he could deal with his eye problems. Vision in his left eye is fuzzy – he thought it was his cataract but they are both doing well. Apparently his retina needs to have a fine layer removed by a different eye professional – at this point, an appointment with the specialist is still pending. Isn’t it fun to get old where medical problems take on such a high priority? Cool
Thursday we finally touched base with friends Trudy and Rod. They have been away at different times than us plus they’re heading east again for a month. Lunch at Montana’s was a perfect meeting place to catch-up on the mega events from our interesting summers. Following lunch, all four of us checked out possible parks for us next year. We will NOT be coming back to this one in the London area, but I will relay more on that in a ‘Life Lesson report’ in the fall (send me an email if you live in the area and want details sooner). Sooooo as of 1 October, when our contract is up with this park, we will be moving to Braemar Valley RV Park, 6 km north of Woodstock on Highway 59 until we head south. There are many park models in that campground, but a perfect site for the LUXOR with a clear view for our Internet Dish was available. We plan to spend next summer there. A new backyard is always appreciated. Cool
Friday it was Katie’s turn to see the Dr. She has about 3-bad teeth on her upper left side that she wouldn’t let anyone near, but with her bad heart, Dr Allyson does not want to put her under. So she has been on antibiotics for the past 10 days and on Friday with the help of two other assistants holding her head, Dr Allyson was able to remove a mega amount of calculus from the area. Another 10 days of antibiotics should do the trick for now. It seems that the calculus was more of the problem than the actual teeth. Katie seems to be a much happier old lady these days. And guess what? – Today is Saturday again – this has been a busy week. Cool
FUTURE TRAVEL PLANS
FYI, our proposed plans for the next year have changed. Following old habits we learned from our military training, John and I always make long-term plans – but following the freedom of the RV lifestyle we also frequently change these extended forecasts. As I already relayed, we have committed to be in Woodstock next summer and this coming winter, it looks like we will NOT be heading to Arizona as we hoped to – instead we expect to spend the winter in the Rio Grande Valley - not sure where as yet. Right now we expect to go to the pretty River Bend C2C RV Park in Brownsville for a week during late October/early November. From there we will check out all available valley parks. There are numerous available, and most will be almost empty during November and December – many will still have spaces available for the busy months of the winter. So we will look for a getaway that appeals to the interests of both John and I, plus of course reasonable monthly rates will also come into the picture. Cool
FINAL THOUGHTS
I will keep this news section short this week. One mute point, many RVers have issues with the parks they are in and sometimes we customers have very few options to get justice. I heard a cute comment today. “With an RV, we can always vote by turning the key and driving off”. Take care and wherever you go Travel Safe. P&M Cool Cool Cool
TIPS OF THE WEEK
EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE - from RV Living in the 21st Century
***My all time favourite tip is a way to create EXTRA DRAWER SPACE. Attach an ordinary pocket style shoe bag to the inside of a cupboard door. For stability, add elastic strips side to side across the pockets and fasten with screws to the door. These portable pocket ‘drawers’ work well in the kitchen to store long or large utensils; in the bedroom for underwear; in the bathroom for shampoo bottles plus toiletries and in a storage compartment for easy to find screw drivers and other tools.
***When NON SLIP VINYL MESH, originally designed for use on boats, is placed beneath kitchen appliances they won't move when the unit is in motion. If you line cupboards with this miracle fabric, dishes or pots and pans also stay exactly where you put them.
***Over the years I discovered the mesh works even better if I place a SIX-INCH SQUARE beneath each pile of dishes or pots rather than the entire shelf. This way when I pick up the last dish the entire shelf is not rearranged. However, this mesh will destroy the finish of some items such as the bottom of acrylic glasses.
***After our recent renovations I discovered that LINING THE SHELF of our dish cupboards with scrap carpet added one more cushion of protection.
***HIDE A KEY outside your coach for emergency entry. If you misplace your keys as much as I do, it's more convenient to use a spare key than it is to break in.
PROMOS THIS WEEK from my Inbox
This week I have been privileged to preview two of Mark Polk’s new seminar DVD series – DEEP CYCLE BATTERIES. This is the most complex detailed info on this subject I have seen anywhere. Mark explains in simplified terms the intricacies of each type of battery along with the ratings, uses, types, sizes, configurations plus how to connect in series or parallel. Storage, charging, cleaning terminals, plus what’s required for general battery care of these ‘hearts’ of our RV’s is also included. Let’s face it, if our batteries don’t work, our RV’s don’t function properly. All these points and more are covered in detail on this complex DVD’. Since understanding your batteries is paramount, this DVD is a must for all new and seasoned RVers.
In their RV CARE AND MAINTENANCE DVD, Dawn and Mark share many of their secrets on how to tackle major spring and fall cleaning as well as periodic cleaning touch-up secrets. Mark also explains how to discover potential problems before they cause major problems such as a wasp nest in the water heater or a bird nest in the fridge. Knowing how each system functions and how to keep it working helps to ensure our homes-on-wheels operate trouble free – not to mention the money we can save in a repair facility. Mark addresses how to trouble shoot potential problems, followed with preventive maintenance for each system, component and accessory in your RV. Explaining the in's and out's of keeping your unit mechanically sound is his #1 priority. Knowing what to look for is 90% of the problem. This DVD is a comprehensive asset to any RV library.
For more details, and/or how to order these two DVD’s, or to learn about any of their extensive line of How-to publications – go to http://rveducation101.com/cart/shopaff.asp?affid=12
NEW ADDITIONS TO RV Living.net
I recently added a comprehensive story about RV Dishwashers written by Ed Doyle. To read all about these time saving accessories go to www.rvliving.net/RVdishwasher.htm
Through Picasa I found I could make any album into a video slideshow and add it to my website. Soooo to try this out I saved my Power Point Packing seminar slides (my shortest PPT seminar) as images and put it into a video. I know it runs too fast to read and as yet I have not found out how to slow it down, but I did add a link at the bottom of the video that takes you to the Picasa albums where you can view the entire content as a slide show in slow motion. This is a trial project I am experimenting with and I value ANY feedback. If you have time and can take a look on my ‘LETS ORGANIZE PACKING TIPS’ page, please do so. http://www.rvliving.net/packing.htm I really do want your good and maybe not so good comments. Not sure if I will proceed with this type of content but I have to know if it has any value. A photo album may be a better presentation this way, however it may not be good for a seminar. Thanks in advance.
