DEBIT CARDS. - Cdns who bank with Bank of Montreal have seen Ads stating each time you use your Debit Card you earn Air/Miles. (That’s how we paid for half our cruise). BUT those with a 'senior’s' account need to contact your branch to move your account to a new version. We still do not pay for our banking services because we are over age 60 but we only discovered last week we had to change accounts to receive A/M for our Debit Card purchases.

We have switched to a 'preferred' account but the $13.90 monthly fee has been waived because we are 'old'. All BofM Debit Card purchases plus cashback amounts earn one A/M for every $40. I had not changed our accounts - didn’t know I had to. When my branch manager in Brockville checked our totals – we would have earned 69 A/M since the program began in June. As a sign of good faith she awarded us a 100 A/M bonus. Soooo change your account, and call your branch if there is any problem.

Just for info NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY YOU LIVE IN, use your Debit Cards to your advantage. By using them for purchases in Wal*Mart and Grocery stores saves RVers money in all countries. Many banks offer some kind of loyalty bonus points plus most busineses will allow you to take Cashback. As a result WE NO LONGER use an ATM in Cda or the USA. This eliminates all fees!!! – especially for Cdns travelling in the south – not sure how this will work in Mexico. We also do not carry Travellers Cheques or excess cash when we start out on a lengthy trip. Travels in 2007 is becoming more simplistic each year. However some banks do charge a small transaction fee; so always ask your branch about their policy.

If in doubt that your card will work just ask the cashier if you can Test your Debit Card”? It will go through, but if it doesn’t then you will not feel stupid if you must pay with cash or credit.

LADDER RV DRYER

Diary reader Marianne and hubby John came up with a neat tip about how to install an RV Dryer to their RV ladder using PCV Pipe ‘Arms’ with permanent ladder brackets. It is difficult to explain but Marianne sent me some self explanatory pictures . It ends up with two (removable) straight PCV Pipe ‘arms’ that attach to the ladder. She dries several items at a time. Neat, simple to use and easy to fabricate plus it would only take minimal storage space between stops.

CDN MILITARY/RCMP PENSION CLAWBACK

Repeat but we need your 'HELP and Support' again. Several weeks ago I requested all Cdn Military/RCMP and their friends and family sign the petition to stop the very unfair ‘Clawback’ of our pensions when we retirees reach age 65. The organizers hope to reach 1 million signatures and they still need the signatures of everyone. If you have not already signed it and feel like joining in please Help us retired members.
